Since being named C.P.S. Principal of the new school Chavez Multicultural Arts Academy in the community, Sandy sought to network with local leaders and educators to immediately implement quality education for the students and support parents in the community. Working alongside Marcey Reyes, then the Principal of Seward Arts Academy, Sandy targeted education initiatives that would make their schools a model of quality educational achievement for low-income neighborhoods. In 1997 she co-founded the Peace and Education Coalition to strengthen partners in working together for a better neighborhood. Sandy listened to the collaborative agencies and worked to introduce creative services by which an entire community could participate. After she retired as Principal, Sandy purchased a home in the neighborhood and continued the mission as a resident. We will remember Sandy and her spirit of mission will continue to guide the Coalition.
At the request of the family, memorials can be made to the Peace and Education Coalition.[/st_text][st_text ]
